He had to go through Samaria on the way.
Eventually he came to the Samaritan village of Char, near the field that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime. Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” He was alone at the time because his disciples had gone into the village to buy some food. The woman was surprised, for Jews refuse to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said to Jesus, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?” Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” “But sir, you don’t have a rope or a bucket,” she said, “and this well is very deep. Where would you get this living water? And besides, do you think you’re greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us this well? How can you offer better water than he and his sons and his animals enjoyed?” Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”
John 4:4-14
What a powerful illustration of life lived apart from God!!!
We were created in the image and likeness of God. God’s design was meant to be fulfilling, enriching and successful in all ramifications.
The Samaritan woman tasted the bitterness of broken relationship; Failed marriages and living with men in adulterous relationship left her empty, void, and a caricature of God’s design and beautiful plan for her life. She lost the glory and dignity of womanhood. And consequently, lived a life of shame, disgrace, and isolation from the community.
Just like her, most people have come to accept their lot in life. Using daily activities and addictions to numb the pains of failure, disappointments, poverty, abuse, and all kinds of abnormalities.
Man was created to only be satisfied through relationship with God. Nothing else will take the place of God in man. It took an encounter with Jesus for the life of the Samaritan woman to change forever!!!
King Solomon experimented with everything under the sun, did not deny himself anything that will give him pleasure, he even had more than a thousand women, still he came to a conclusion that all is vanity.
Do you identify yourself in her story? Are you tired of living aimlessly? Hustling to no end, engaged in the proverbial rat race, drowning in your situation? Lonely? Battling addictions? Depressed to suicidal levels?
I have Good News for you!!!
The Man, Jesus Christ. He is both the Son of God and Son of man. He was sent by the Father to usher forgiveness and fountain of God’s life to us. Consider a new life from His Spirit and guidance from His Word. Jesus is offering you living water able to was away your dirt and also satisfy your thirst.
I don’t know what you have tried to use to fill your emptiness and to satisfy the longing of your soul. Let it be known to you that your emptiness can only be filled by Jesus and him alone can satisfy your soul.
Once you accept Jesus as your saviour and Lord, you will have access to the living water that he is offering. So, I implore you to say this prayer with me:
Dear Lord Jesus, I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead for me to be justified. Take complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps by the power of the Holy Spirit, as I daily experience Your love. Thank you, Lord, for saving me and for answering my prayer, Amen.
