Growth in Holiness — Living for the Glory of God, by Pastor Mike

Introduction

Humanity inherited both spiritual and physical death through the disobedience of Adam. This “death” was not just the end of life—it was the loss of glory, dignity, and the holy nature God originally gave man. But through Jesus Christ, that lost glory was restored. When He declared, “It is finished,” and the veil was torn, access into the Holy of Holies was opened to all who would return to God in faith.

Faith in Christ does not only bring forgiveness; it restores our fellowship, righteousness, and identity as sons and daughters of God. Through Him, we are positioned in holiness and empowered to walk with a holy God.

But how do we grow in the holiness we have received by grace?

Romans 12 shows us the pathway:

“…by the mercies of God, present your bodies as a living sacrifice… And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”

— Romans 12:1–2 (AMP)

Practical Insights for Growth in Holiness

1. Personal Devotion to God

Growth in holiness begins with a personal revelation of the immeasurable price Christ paid. This fresh revelation softens the heart, awakens spiritual sensitivity, and draws us into true worship. God seeks worshippers in spirit and in truth. Like Paul in Galatians 2:20–21, we must live daily in the consciousness of God’s mercy.

2. Putting Off the Old Man

Though redeemed, we still wrestle with the Adamic nature. But through the Word and the Spirit, we gain power over sin and temptation.

We must guard our hearts, resist fleshly desires, and refuse anything that seeks to redefine our God-given identity.

See: Ephesians 4:22; Colossians 3:9.

3. Putting On the New Man

In Christ, we receive God’s spiritual DNA. Yet, like newborns, we must grow into maturity—into the full stature of Christ. This growth is nurtured through the Word, prayer, fellowship, obedience, and consistent practice of righteousness.

See: Ephesians 4:24; Colossians 3:10–11; Romans 8:29.

4. Pursuing the Will of God

Holiness is impossible without surrender. We must continually seek God’s will—in our homes, relationships, ministries, and daily decisions. Like Jesus, our heart posture should always be: “Not my will, but Yours be done.”

See: John 6:38.

Reflection Questions

What is God’s will concerning your life, marriage, children, ministry, fellowship, and stewardship of time and gifts?

What areas hinder your growth in holiness—and what divine provisions has God already made for your victory?

What rewards has God promised those who live consecrated lives?

—

Consideration

“Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live…”

— 2 Peter 3:11 (NLT)

—

Closing Prayer

“Not that I have already attained… but I press on…”

— Philippians 3:12

Lord, strengthen me to pursue and grow in holiness. Help me to live daily for Your glory and walk worthy of Your calling.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
